GC Selects Radio Show 10/26
Episode #4 is out of the way and definitely improving on the look on how I’m promoting songs that I play. This was a shorter show than the others because I actually woke up 10 minutes before my show, rushed to the studio, and threw together a mix live (I usually have 10 tracks ready then improvise/take requests from there). Also enjoy the suggestions for Halloween tracks, wish I used more but requests came in :P. GC Selects Radio Show 9/28
Hey guys as of now I’m pretty busy with school, djing, and…living. But I got a new radio show played on wsam.hartford.edu from 12-2pm on Tuesdays. Not exactly sure why the feed doesn’t always work but it seems to work on Macs once you follow the instructions. So to make up for not posting songs as often as I did over the summer I will definitely be posting songs every week as a follow-up to my show. The songs will include the track list I made for the show, I do the entire show live and I actually pick the songs as I go along so enjoy the randomness that is Garebear at 12pm on a Tuesday mixing.
Because I have this site tied to my show I cannot deliver every single track as a download due to copyright laws, blah, blah, blah. But I will have downloads to all of the songs that I got for free and are actually legal to distribute. Dirty new track from Kano and Vybz Kartel. No idea how Boys Noize and Diplo ended up colliding on this track but they created the perfect beat to have these guys provide vocals for. Be sure to check out all of Kano’s new songs from his new album Method To The Madness, tons of guest producers I would’ve never have imagined are on that album including Hot Chip.
Sean Kingston feat. Nicki Minaj – Letting Go (Dutty Dutty) (Various Mixes)
Really liking both versions of this song, the original will definitely tear up urban dance floors while Jump Smokers will rock the house clubs. I think I’m personally favoring the Jump Smokers remix, because they bring their typical build-up into instrumental chorus.
Dirty Money – Hello Good Morning (Erick Morillo & Eddie Thoneick Mix)
This was available on Erick Morillo’s website. Great big room remix of this song, actually just started listening to Erick Morillo the other day and not regretting it for a second. The funny coincidence is that the original song was stuck in my head all yesterday…then I wake up today to notice a remix was just released. This is a solid remix to the original song. It also is a much longer song, Kanye West adds a little break which would be pretty cool if he didn’t talk the entire time (would definitely be abused by DJs as a party break), Jay-Z adds a verse of course, and Swizz Beatz ends the song with a completely different beat to the song. I almost wonder why Swizz Beatz didn’t simply use the ending instrumental as his own remix to the song. Regardless enjoy…because the radio will enjoy this.

Swizz samples Daft Punk I believe. Not a huge fan of Gucci Mane but this is a pretty good song.

Jermaine Dupri…wtf? Why does he randomly come out with club hits once a year?

Love the original version to this song…this doesn’t top it, but it’s not a bad substitute.

Prepare to hear this on the radio….a lot

If you must listen to Soulja Boy, this makes it bearable.

This would be my favorite club remix if it wasn’t for the warped vocals at parts…makes it sound like your equipment broke.

Great remix to Cudi’s “Cudder is Back.” Uses a lot of the elements from the original song, but was reworked for the clubs. Definitely will get the attention of any Cudi fan, and will keep people dancing if they aren’t a fan. This will layover some fans considering the album was pushed to late September.

Completely forgot to put up a throwback yesterday. So to make up for it I’ll put up two throwbacks. Both of these throwbacks are classic rap chill songs. ENJOY
Cam’ron – Hey Ma
First up is this classic by Cam’ron. I used to call Cam’ron the Dr. Seuss of rappers…why? If you listen to his songs he will say absolutely anything to rhyme…even make up dumb words. Never respected him as a rapper but he did make a solid few hits that I enjoy still to this day. This is obviously one of them.
Akinyele – In Your Mouth
It’s a shame that Akinyele was a one hit wonder, considering how good this song was. But nonetheless this song still gets playtime to this day. Pretty funny how degrading this song is, yet I ONLY here girls blasting this in their cars. “people through out the world, just put it in my mouth, yeah it’s your pick, muthafuckin mouth, what do you wanna lick” haha these lyrics are repeated for the last minute of the song, definitely up there with Eamon for “Ridiculous Songs”

FUCK YEAH GC EXCLUSIVE…sorry to be a stereotypical college kid, but this is going to be one of the jams of this fall/winter on campuses. LMFAO brings a verse, while Dirty Nasty does the rest. Definitely a great song to listen to in and out of a party, the lyrics are actually pretty funny…but what sets this song apart is how it uses the Jewish Mazel Tov…AS THE HOOK. Instantly turns this into a very fun song to listen to. What is even crazier is how the song turns from a fun song, into a badass semi-deep house track at the end. After hearing that section I definitely realized there’s either going to be a: A.) A lot of remixes to this song, or B.) An extended mix is definitely going to be released. Why? because the end section is only about 45 seconds long…it easily could’ve carried like that for another chorus, even if the beat was riding by itself. Best version of this song I’ve heard so far, of course Jump Smokers killed it. I thought the original version was ok, and most of the remixes were solid…but none of them really stood out or changed the song enough. This one perfectly adds electro to Usher’s already upbeat song, they even slightly changed the rhythm of Usher to add a different feel to the song. Check it out.

Another leak from cudi’s album The Legend of Mr. Rager. Definitely a better song than his last single Erase Me. This goes back to what Kid Cudi does best, simply rapping about his life. His second album is starting to look as good as his first album (except less mainstream). Looking for the release sometime next month.

Every year I at least hear 1 amazing mashup album. Apparently there was a really well-made album mashing B.I.G. with XX…I’ll get back to you on that one. But for now we are talking about 500 Days of Weezy. I will tell you right now…I DO NOT LIKE LIL WAYNE. Every once in a while he comes out with something I don’t mind, but 99% of the time I don’t like him. Well this album is great regardless. My Sik Uncle is going places after creating an album like this (if he hasn’t already been).
!Throwback! Nelly Furtado
This throwback is on an entire artist…Nelly Furtado. Had a song ready to go last night as the throwback but I decided to save it (possibly 2 throwbacks this week?). Had the change of heart once I realized most of the songs I posted today included Nelly Furtado, which got me thinking of a few of her classics that I actually still listen to to this day. FIRST OFF
Sacrifice by The Roots ft. Nelly Furtado
This was easily my favorite song a few years back for a looong time. Black Thought unsurprisingly kills it in this song. This was my pump up song before games and when I would wake up…beat wise that’s weird but this song has great lyrics. It almost makes no sense to add this song to the list of Furtado songs, but I like this song that much. Furtado’s role in this song was simply to be the melody in the chorus, they could have got any singer to do that.
Turn Off The Lights by Nelly Furtado
I cannot tell you how much I hated this song and Nelly Furtado when she first came out…I think I was still in middle school. But Furtado honestly grew on me over the years and this is probably tied with Say It Right as my favorite song by her. Probably going to play this song at a gig to open soon.
Say It Right by Nelly Furtado
This was the song that got me to like Nelly Furtado. Up until this song I hated her, and all of her work. I don’t know if I ended up liking this song because Timberland was producing it and I like him, or if it was simply that she grew on me. But this was the song that got me tuned into Furtado.
Travie McCoy feat. Bruno Mars, LMFAO & Gucci Mane – Billionaire (Party Rock Remix)

This is far from your typical Party Rock remix, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good remix. Been waiting for this remix since I heard it on Benzi’s summer radio mix. Surprised to see Gucci Mane on this track but it works well with the revamped beat LMFAO made. This song definitely shows that LMFAO can actually make a rap track rather than sticking with party/dance music.
Weekly Highlight – Example
Example
Clearly Example has some balls for making his stage name Example. And it definitely works because he is a huge example of how artists should be. Example does a lot of things artists thrive to accomplish:
1.) Make hits
2.) Have songs with great lyrics, vocals, and beats
3.) Can make a dance hit, a laid back hit, and a hit of their liking
With his first major album “Won’t Go Quietly” given huge praise from critics everywhere, this UK artist (honestly not even sure what to categorize him) can do almost everything on a track. He raps, sing (not great, but good enough), and MC. I wouldn’t go as far as to say he has surpassed artists such as Kid Cudi (who is in the same field as Example), Kid Cudi’s lyrics are literally things we have never heard a lot of in music…especially rap. But Example definitely can give him some competition if he becomes more popular in the U.S.

Edit: I originally thought LG was in the song Get Loose…turns out he is not. So I included another track featuring Scoot P and LG called Plane, enjoy.
Grew up with LG (the writer of the Big K.R.I.T. post) and he recently gave me the file to one of his latest songs.
Actually is a pretty good song, and is funny to hear him (LG) rap when I’ve never heard him rap before a couple months ago.
Would be interesting to hear this get radio time.
Janelle Monae – Tightrope (Various Mixes)
Can’t get enough of Janelle Monae’s ability to bring old school soul music back with a pop-ish feel to it. She is definitely going places with this genre of music and we will surely see many of followers. I am posting a couple versions of this song, including the original. Obviously the original is my favorite which is what made her famous. Between the Organized Noize and Hook remixes I can’t decide which one I like more. They both respectfully change the song to match the genre they were going for. Organized Noize brings the original vocals and turns it into a hip-hop track similar to the style of Outkast. While the Hook N Sling & Goodwill Remix is definitely a hybrid of the original and a house track, while using the some of the vocals as ambience. Both are very well put together remixes.
