Swedish House Mafia ft. Tini Tempah – Miami To Ibiza (Various Mixes)

Edit: I knew there was something wrong with the original version…IT’S NOT THE RIGHT SONG! I will post the correct song and give a new review ASAP

This is my new review…first off disregard my review below.  I fucked up big time because this song is  A HIT!  Swedish House Mafia simply cannot be stopped now.  Tini Tempah’s vocals are of course entertaining to hear and go perfectly with the flow of the song.  SHM definitely tore it up on the instrumental, and even managed to perfectly integrate Tempah into the song by having the vocals match the same intensity as the instrumental.  This is going to be the next hit everyone will be listening to, guaranteed.  To be honest I still have no idea wtf is up with the Laidback Luke version…now that I have the correct original version I still see absolutely no connections to the song.  I’m honestly starting to think it was simply a mislabeled song.  DOWNLOAD THIS SONG NOW….I put up a new link.

p.s. The song is an early leak…so there is absolutely no outro.  I’ll repost once I find a perfect copy

SHM’s hot new single featuring Tini Tempah is finally here.  Not as much as a dance club banger as their previous single One but still nonetheless a great rave song…and great song in general.  I had high expectations when I first heard about the release of this song considering I’m a fan of Tini Tempah as well.  It sort of fell short considering I assumed Tempah would be rapping over SHM…looks like they used him in production instead.  I love Laidback Luke (probably my favorite DJ) but he occasionally seems to mislabel some of his remixes.  His remix is a pretty good song on it’s own.  My problem with it is that it’s labeled as a remix to SHM’s song…there is almost zero resemblance to the original song.  No vocals, no original hook…practically nothing.  But I’m not going to say it’s a bad song, it’s still a pretty good song.  I just wish Luke changed the name 😛

I know Tiesto fans are going to like this song, but I personally am not a fan of Tiesto.  This song definitely backs up my argument that whenever Tiesto remixes a song, he uses the EXACT SAME HOOK but just makes it sound more techno-ish.  Pendulum’s part 2 version of the song sounds more of a remix than this version.  But Tiesto fans enjoy.

Pendulum – The Island

Never was a fan of Pendulum until this song, it’s definitely forcing me to listen to the rest of the album.  This is a great song.  Best part is that both parts of the song are completely different songs…but they have the same theme.  The first part is a Trance-progressive song with Pendulum singing alongside it.  Part 2, COMPLETELY different song.  This version is more of a hardcore-electro song with practically no vocals.  I included both parts and an edit I made that perfect transfers from 1 part to the next…definitely useful for those that has an audio player that has a delay between songs.

Freemasons feat. Wynter Gordon – Believer

Great new track from both Freemasons and Wynter Gordon.  Definitely going to be a hit in the trance genre.  Wynter Gordon definitely earned a spot in new woman vocalist for DJs, she is starting to appear in everything.  Check out the extended and radio versions.

Laidback Luke ft. Jonathan Mendelsohn – Till Tonight (Various Remixes)

Still cannot believe how Laidback Luke did a trance song and killed it.  Easily my favorite trance song of the year (I don’t listen to a lot though).  But I’m making this post to show some of my favorite remixes of this track.  The Chris Kaeser remix stays truest to the original track by adding a transition to the original and incorporating the original more into a house track.  If you want a remix that is fairly different from the original track then Mstrkrft is definitely the mix for you.  Mstrkrft adds their typical synth sound to the song, sounds fairly like Bounce (their song featuring Nore) but that could just be me.  Check them out.

Pendulum – Watercolour (Deadmau5 Remix)

This is definitely old news, but this is a great remix that I don’t think a lot of people know about.  I heard it a long time ago and just recently it started getting a lot of plays on my Ipod.  First off Deadmau5 makes this song seem like 128 BPM is the right tempo for this song, because shortly after listening I listened to the original song.  The original song sounds fast as SHIT…I’m guessing around 160 BPM.  Most songs when you slow it down that much it gets extremely distorted and it simply doesn’t work.  But this fuckin works.

Faithless – The Dance

Faithless - The Dance

Let me wrap this review up fast considering this album was OK at best.  One thing that Faithless does great in this album is sticking to its roots.  Not for a second during this album do they try to change their style to the trance/house music that is being played today, and for that I have to respect Faithless.  But if they are staying true to their roots then whats wrong with this album?  Easy, almost the entire album lacks the flow and charisma of his previous albums (even though the albums have been declining over the years).  Plus for some odd marketing reason this newest album is only being sold within specific online vendors, which in all honesty is asking for piracy.

But let me redeem this album really fast by saying that Sun To Me is an amazing track, yes it has been leaked for almost a year now but who cares?  Sun To Me easily goes back to Faithless from the 90’s in its high energy club banger.  It is simply 8 minutes of great trance/house with a slight progressive build to it.  Best part of the song is 4 minutes in once the hook kicks in…yeah…the hook doesn’t kick in until 4 minutes into the track.  Great…Fucking…Song

Electric Daisy Carnival 2010

Electric Daisy Carnival 2010

It is a shame that I did not go, but of course I live on the east coast.  BUT I did listen to at least half of the entire event, and from what I listened to it was INSANE.  The only thing they needed to fix was the MCs.  I understand that it made sense and it was cool to have Lil Jon, Will.I.Am. MCing throughout the event, but they were only necessary during the DJ transitions or when they were playing songs they were involved.  At times these guys were talking for a good 30 minutes during these sets, and it grew annoying.  Check out my post below on the artists, a link to their set, and what I thought of them.

DJ Chuckie

I only started listening to Electro/House/Dance music about a year ago and I can honestly say Chuckie was the gateway drug.  So naturally I had to listen to his set.  Chuckie did not disappoint either, he pulled out some really random songs out of nowhere throughout his entire set such as Eye of the Tiger and Sweet Dreams (Eurythmics).  He also pulled out a nice short mashup of Pon De Floor with Day N Night, in which I wish he actually played a verse or chorus of the mashup because it sounded really good.

Will.I.Am

Will.I.Am did a solid job at DJing and MCing his own set but like other performances Will.I.Am is better off just getting the whole BEP crew and performing live.  He is a solid DJ in terms that he can mix, but he is nothing special on the turntables.  His song selection usually consists of BEP songs and songs you’ve probably already heard the other DJs play earlier so it is a performance that’s good but could be missed.

Laidback Luke

This performance further proved why Laidback Luke is easily one of my favorite DJs.  This entire set was pure energy driven beats, especially when he was playing his new single Till Tonight.  Luke at a couple points even broke out into dubstep which was completely unexpected.  After reading a few stories and hearing from a bunch of people, I don’t want to believe it but it seems not a lot of people (at least in the U.S.) know about Laidback Luke.  Laidback Luke has been DJing since the late 90’s except over the past 3 years he has hopped a ton of fences to scramble up to the top DJs spot.  Simply taking a quick scan of Beatport will show that Laidback Luke has a solid spot as one of the best DJs on the site.  Keep an eye out for this guy, he definitely is apart of the  present and future of electro.

Benny Benassi

Benny Benassi to no one’s surprise was great.  He played all of his hits from the new Afrojack remix of Satisfaction to his older classics like My Otherside (which he perfectly ended his set with).  I really need to see Benny live, especially once his new album drops soon.  The only thing that was bothering me during his set was that he had MCs for at least a solid 40 minutes of his set…which was ridiculous because they were yelling and amping up the crowd constantly…that may not seem like a bad thing at first, but after the first 3 minutes it really started to get annoying

Above & Beyond

To be 100% honest, I’m not the biggest fan of trance music.  I don’t know if it’s just not my style or it’s just that I have yet to listen to it intensely.  But I almost considered not listening to the rest of the performances after Benassi.  But a friend of mines convinced me I should listen to it, so I did.  Above & Beyond’s performance was even to me really well done.  One thing I was questioning as Benny Benassi finished his set was how they were going to blend his Electro/House music into trance.  I wish I knew the songs that Above & Beyond started with but it was perfect.  There were several spots in which I really wanted to know what song they were playing, so I’m definitely going to be checking out the set’s list later on in the week.  But this is coming from someone that does not listen to trance music…Above & Beyond put on a great show.

Like I stated above, trance isn’t my music of choice (could be in the future once it grows on me though), but being fully aware that AVB is considered widely as the best DJ alive now, I simply couldn’t miss the performance.  AVB blew me away…yes I said it…I’m not a trance fan, but he blew me away.  First off, AVB played Faithless…enough said.  But the rest of his song selection was pretty insane.  Now please do not take offense to my next comment but for a trance set, the first 20 minutes of AVB’s set was simply energetic.  Usually I don’t get that pumped when I listen to trance, because it tends to be more relaxed than electro…but definitely not AVB’s set.  It was 3AM when I was listening to it and I convinced myself to watch only the first 5 minutes of his set then pass out…I didn’t fall asleep until close to 4AM.

Here is the rest of the performances that I have yet to listen to…but I definitely will over the next couple days (it’s 2 days worth of music fyi)
